Luxury Stewart Island — Experiences, Lifestyles, Travel
Stewart Island (Rakiura) is the third-largest island of New Zealand and is located just 30km from the South Island, across Foveaux Strait. Most of the island’s 381 residents live in Halfmoon Bay in the settlement of Oban, named after a town in Scotland. Getting to the island is easy thanks to regular flights from Invercargill and a ferry service from Bluff.
Despite its size, there’s no end of great reasons to visit. Among the top things to do during your Stewart Island experience are hiking and birdwatching, along with biking. There are some great places to stay, including the delightful Observation Rock Lodge, a luxury boutique retreat surrounded by native forest and prolific birdlife which also offers gourmet cuisine and stunning views.
